Stephen's Butcher Shop Vintage
Morley’s father, Arnold Stephen, first opened Stephen’s Meat and Grocery Store near the bridge in Port Carling in 1927. This closed in 1971 when the land was expropriated to allow for the new two lane bridge through the centre of town. Morley took the meat cutting equipment back to his small home garage and set up shop. Stephen’s Butcher Shop has been in full swing ever since. His son Richard joined the business full time in 1995 after graduating from University and has been making changes and improvements ever since. Richard and his wife Jennifer run the shop full-time now, with the help of their amazing family and long-time staff members.
In the summer months, the shop provides the highest quality products to local residents and cottagers from all over Muskoka. While the high quality never changes, the fall and winter are a slower time of year. Specialty freezer orders help keep everyone stocked up for winter. Staff look forward to the return of warmer weather and the hustle and bustle that comes with it. At times the lineup may look daunting but it moves quickly as custom orders are filled to each customer’s satisfaction. Part of the charm of Stephen’s Butcher Shop is the friendly rapport between the customer and the staff.
